Perhaps the work James Lawrence Isherwood is most well known for. His telling, superb and simplistic images of Wigan and it's people. He once stated  'He would rather paint a shawled old lady from Wigan, than any famous person" .Wigan figure works are fiercely collected. His figures always painted with a swift action of the palette knife, with little correction.
